The Pacific In Vitro Fertilization Institute celebrated the first successful frozen oocyte (egg) pregnancy in Hawaii with the birth of a healthy baby boy in April of 2010. Embryo and sperm freezing have been available for many years; however, freezing eggs awaited the development of a new technology called vitrification. Vitrification is a rapid freezing process which greatly reduces the risk of injury to the egg. A second successful frozen egg pregnancy will soon be delivered.
